Meet Jill Singleton,
A Morgan FFA Alumni Member who says “FFA has played a significant role in shaping her personal and professional growth.”
Jill was not planning on joining FFA because her older siblings were in it. She was determined to “do her own thing,” but one of her advisors knew how to get her to join: competition. Her advisor knew how incredibly competitive she is and baited her with the need to compete in CDEs and LDEs. Jill was very successful in many contests.
After high school Jill attended LDS Business College and graduated with a Business Skills Associate Degree and a Professional Sales Certificate and an Accounting Certificate. She then attended Utah State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Communications and Journalism and Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations.
Jill is currently the Director of Branding and Public Relations for Intermountain Farmers Association. Jill started with IFA right out of college as the Marketing Coordinator. She got her job with IFA because of FFA. Jill was asked to judge the Marketing Plan CDE her last semester at USU and one of her fellow judges reached out a few days later asking why she hadn’t applied for his internship program. He convinced Jill to apply and at the end of that summer internship she was introduced to the VP of Marketing at IFA, her future boss.
The best part of Jill’s job is “recognizing and celebrating the men and women who feed our communities. As a farmer-owned cooperative, everything we do at IFA is rooted in supporting our members, the producers. I deeply admire their resilience, grit, and respect for the land and their profession. It’s a privilege to work alongside and in the service of such remarkable agricultural professionals.”
Jill says, “FFA has played a significant role in shaping my personal and profession growth.” Through the guidance of her advisor, she learned how to study effectively, understand materials, and apply concepts with confidence and purpose. Jill also developed the ability to organize her thoughts quickly and communicate them in a clear, compelling narrative. Jill says, “I continue to rely on the skills I gained public speaking, disciplined study habits, and parliamentary procedure on a daily basis. Perhaps most impactful though, FFA taught me how to engage in respectful dialogue, find common ground, and move forward collaboratively.”
Jill’s feels lucky because her dad was one of her advisors and he really shaped her experience with FFA. “His example of leadership and desire to continually share his passion for and knowledge of agriculture keeps me involved. I get to help my local chapter with chapter officer selections, speaking contests, and other small events locally. I currently serve as the Vice President on the Utah FFA Foundation Board and as IFA’s FFA liaison."
Jill’s advice is to “take advantage of every opportunity FFA offers. You will be surprised by how much you grow. Challenge yourself. Step outside of your comfort zone. The skills and experiences you are gaining today will quite literally help shape not only your own future, but the future of agriculture.”
