Where Are They Now? | October 2025 | By Samantha Henderson

Meet Brooke Holgate,
A former Roosevelt FFA Member who always knew she wanted a future in agriculture and FFA was the perfect path to help her find a career in agriculture.

Brooke was on her chapter’s Livestock team for all four years of high school. Livestock Evaluation taught her a lot about selecting and managing her own animals. She also gained confidence in speaking to others and explaining her reasons clearly. She was also a member of Roosevelt’s Parliamentary Procedure team, where she learned how to debate, listen to other points of view, and how to ask good questions.
Brooke says that “those experiences stick with her to this day”. FFA was the perfect path to help her learn more about the agriculture industry and build the skills she would need along the way.
After high school, Brooke attended Utah State University in Logan and earned her bachelor’s degree in Animal, Dairy, and Veterinary Science. “#GWAGGIES”. After graduating from USU she moved back to Roosevelt, just as a position was opening at the Duchesne County Extension Office. Brooke had interned with USU Extension in the summers while attending USU and she “loved working with youth on their livestock projects.” Originally her goal was to become a veterinarian, but through Extension she found her “love for teaching and sharing knowledge.”
Brooke now works as the Duchesne County Ag and Natural Resources/4-H Extension Faculty. Her favorite part of her job is that no two days are the same. She gets to “meet incredible people, work with kids, and help keep agriculture thriving in Duchesne County.”
When asked what did FFA teach/give you that you still use today Brooke said, “So many of the skills I learned in FFA are still a big part of my life. From coaching the Duchesne County 4-H livestock judging team, to working with producers on herd management plans, to teaching backyard gardening classes to seniors, the communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills I built in FFA show up every day.”
Brooke works closely with all of the Duchesne County FFA Chapters, especially during the summer. Brooke tells and shows youth that, they can join FFA and 4-H! To anyone thinking about joining, “say yes and jump in!”
By joining FFA, “You’ll gain skills that go far beyond the classroom or the farm. You’ll learn leadership, teamwork, public speaking, and confidence. Plus, you’ll meet people and have experiences that can truly shape your future. You never know where it might take you. I thought I would be a vet, but FFA helped open my eyes to a whole new path in education and Extension that I absolutely love.”
