Meet Alayna Murray,
Former Uintah FFA Member and owner of Alayna’s Arrangements.
Alayna joined FFA because her dad was a member when he was in high school. She didn’t think she was “big into agriculture” but then most of her classes were ag classes and “it made sense to be a part of an organization where her interests were”. Alayna says not only did it make sense, but it was “a fun organization to be in; the other members made it that way.”
While in FFA, Alayna participated in the Floriculture and Nursery/Landscape Career Development Events. Her Floriculture team placed 2nd at state. In Nursery/Landscape, she was 3rd High Individual and her team won 1st place-going on to compete at Nationals. Through these events, Alayna says, “I learned how to work with a team of people I came to trust. I learned how to be confident in myself and my work. The trips to the contests were always the best, surrounded by friends that became like family.”
After high school, Alayna attended BYU-Idaho studying Floral Design, while also taking business classes. While at college, she realized college wasn’t for her, so she moved back home to Vernal, Utah. With the help of her parents, she started her flower and gift shop–Alayna’s Arrangements.
She says, “my parents were my biggest supporters in helping me open my shop.” Together they found funding to start Alayna’s Arrangements, found the perfect building to move into, and remodeled to make the “atmosphere feel like a place people will want to come back to.”
Alayna has owned and operated her flower and gift shop for a little over two years now. She says the favorite part of her job is “getting to bring joy to others through flowers. No matter the occasion, flowers always bring a smile to someone’s face."
“FFA definitely grew my love for flowers by being on the Floriculture team.” Through agricultural classes and FFA, Alayna was able to learn so much more about flowers and the floral industry. She learned more than she could have from any other organization in high school. Alayna says, “It taught me so much, how to be able to talk to others, be confident in myself and my work, and how to be a leader.”
Alayna loves to share her passion of flowers and how she got to where she is today. She hopes to get into some classrooms to teach about what she does as a floral designer and business owner.
To anyone thinking about taking an agriculture class or joining FFA, Alayna says, “Do it! Agriculture is so much more than you think it is. There is a place for you in FFA. It will teach and give you things in life you won’t get anywhere else.”
